Training Your Boxer

Are your dogs/puppies good with young children?

A resounding YES, on this one!  Our puppies are very well socialized with children because they are raised in our house with our 13 children.  Yes, you read that correctly, we have 13 children of various ages, so our puppies are well acquainted with the noise and hustle and bustle that children bring to a family.  We also homeschool our children, so they are around children all day, not just for a few hours at the end of the day.  Of course, we recommend that you teach your children that all dogs are to be respected and given their personal space when needed.

What do you feed your dogs?

I feed our dogs a raw diet.  They eat between 2-3lbs of raw bony meat per day, I gauge the amount on their body condition (less if they are getting chunky, more if they are
pregnant, nursing or more active, I keep them at a healthy weight, so I
switch it up depending on what they need.)  They are also fed whole mackerel and beef and chicken organ meat.

In addition to their 2-3lbs of raw meat, they are fed a mixture of lightly cooked oats, cooked lentils and various fruits and veggies daily.

I add a spice mixture of cinnamon, turmeric, garlic, some raw apple cider vinegar, an herbal mixture and a vitamin mixture that I make that includes seaweed and alfalfa as well as quite a few other herbs.

The bony meat is usually chicken or turkey  and their diet is made up of about 20% organ meats.  They can eat raw poultry bones, but not cooked.  the key is that they really need bones each day, they eat them and raw bones don’t splinter like the cooked ones.  Chicken parts are perfect and can be found at your grocery store.  This week whole turkeys were on sale, so I bought some and will cut them up.  I feed them chicken parts or sometimes whole chickens cut up.  I just weigh out what they need using a standard kitchen scale.

Can you recommend a dry kibble food?

I do not recommend feeding a dry kibble, but if you do choose to use a kibble, please choose one that is rated 5 or 6 stars on the Dog Food Analysis website.

How can I pay for my puppy?

We understand that not everyone likes to use cash so we recently decided to accept credit cards.  We accept credit card and funded Paypal payments, Bank to Bank email money transfers, credit cards via Square Up using a credit card reader on an iphone for in person credit card payments as well as good old cash, the choice is yours.

Do you offer a health guarantee?

Yes, we offer a three year replacement guarantee on any of our dogs who dies from or is diagnosed the following life threatening or debilitating illnesses:

  • Hip Dysplasia
  • Thyroid Disease
  • Boxer Cardiomyopathy
  • Aortic / Subaortic Valvular Stenosis: AS/SAS

No other warranty is offered or implied.  If in the case of diagnosis with or death from any of the above diseases within three years of purchase, we will offer a replacement puppy of similar quality.  We will not pay your vet fees for any reason.

Will my puppy come to me with all of their shots?

Yes, they will come with their first vaccinations which includes Canine distemper, adenovirus type 2, Parainfluenza and Parvovirus.  However, I strongly recommend that you do some research on the  safety and efficacy of vaccines for pets.  Please spend some time perusing The Whole Dog website to learn more.

Your puppy will also be dewormed and will have the Health certificate from a veterinarian that is now required by law in the province of Nova Scotia.

Will you ship or delivery my puppy?

While I always recommend coming to my home and meeting my dogs, I know it is not always possible to find a quality Canadian Kennel Club registered boxer puppy from champion and grand champion show lines such as mine who is also fed raw food and raised in a family setting in all areas of the country.  I have shipped puppies by air on numerous occasions for all of the above reasons.  The usual fee for shipping a puppy by air is $500 all inclusive within Canada.  If an adult or older puppy is shipped the shipping fee is higher to account for a larger crate and higher airline charges.

I will also deliver to various areas within the Maritime provinces for a delivery fee.  Please inquire for more details.
